Dr. Suzanne McMurry, ND
Hello, and welcome to the beginning of your health journey! I am committed to helping you achieve a healthy, vital state of well-being.
After leaving home and attending Michigan State University, I found myself struggling with nutrition. I realized I didn’t know how to eat, so I didn’t. And when I did, I overate all the wrong foods. Being on the varsity soccer team, this was not ideal. Fortunately, I was able to get myself out of this cycle and became adamant about finding and cooking healthy, nutritious recipes that would enable me to perform at a collegiate level.
Through my research, I discovered Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington. I was enthralled with their botanical medicine program, one of the best in the country. I graduated from MSU with a degree in Environmental Science and Botany and moved to Seattle shortly after. Of all the programs at Bastyr, it was naturopathic medicine that caught my eye. Coming from the Midwest, naturopathic medicine isn’t a topic that’s talked about much. I loved all that it encompassed – the personal connection with each patient, focusing on diet and lifestyle and in-depth, detailed knowledge of the biochemistry of the body – all aspects that are strongly incorporated into each patient visit at Full Circle Natural Medicine.
After I received my medical naturopath degree from Bastyr, I was selected to complete a two-year oncology-focused residency at Indiana University Goshen Hospital. Cancer has touched my life in a very personal way – my dad recovered from pancreatic cancer during medical school and my father-in-law was diagnosed with lung cancer right before I began my post-graduate medical residency. I am in awe of the body’s ability to come back after undergoing such a grueling treatment regimen. This is why I wanted to support patients before, during, and after this process. By improving their quality of life through reducing side effects of treatment, and giving them support when they need it the most; I find that my patients recover quicker with less lasting effects.
My passion for pediatrics continues to grow with my own daughter. I feel fortunate to be a mother, but also understand the burden that comes with such a task. Natural therapies, when given early in a child’s life, can prevent many chronic issues that can show up in adulthood, such as psoriasis, eczema, allergies, digestive disorders, and autoimmune conditions. During my two-year residency at Indiana University Goshen, I was fortunate to see patients with autism spectrum disorder. I gained an incredible amount of knowledge through working with them, realizing how natural therapies, when given appropriately, can improve speech/language, sleep, bowel movement dysfunction, habitual behaviors, anxiety, and growth and development. Most importantly, I understand that a parent would do anything for their child, which is how I treat the littlest of my patients, with the knowledge of a doctor and compassion as a parent. I look forward to meeting you and learning about your own journey.
In my downtime I enjoy traveling, cooking, playing soccer and spending time with my family and friends.
